If you are making a list of all the household cleaning jobs, deep cleaning bathroom floors is probably right at the top of your least favorite list.

The bad news is it’s a job you have to do. The good news is with just a few bathroom floor cleaning tips and some maintenance, clean bathroom floors aren’t hard to achieve.

Before we look at how to clean bathroom floors, consider this fact: the average person visits the bathroom 2,500 times a year. Multiply that by the number of people in your house, and it’s no wonder bathroom floors take a beating!

Keeping that in mind, let’s run through a simple bathroom floor cleaning guide for porcelain tiles.

Tools of the Trade

You don’t like using caustic cleaners – to say nothing of having to buy them. Everything you need to clean your bathroom floors is natural, and it’s all stuff you already have on hand.

Here’s the list:

  • Broom or vacuum
  • Mop and bucket
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Soft-bristle brush
  • Dish soap, white vinegar, baking soda

That’s it! Simple, right? Let’s get to it.

Get the Loose Stuff Up

Step one is just sweeping or vacuuming to get any loose surface dust, hair, or anything else up. Do use a soft broom so you don’t have to worry about scratching those tiles.

Note: if you get in the habit of sweeping your bathroom floor, you’ll cut down on the possibility of grit scratching the tiles.

First Mop

In your bucket, mix up 1/4 cup of vinegar, a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid, and a gallon of warm water. Then, slowly mop the floor, letting the cleaning solution do its thing.

Now go ahead and rinse the floor by mopping it again with warm water, checking to make sure your mop is clean.

Still Not Shiny

Sprinkle baking soda over the floor. After letting the baking soda go to work, repeat the first mop with the vinegar, water, soap mixture, then re-rinse. Those tiles are looking better!

Stains Are Gone

Now that you’ve got most of the floor looking good, you might notice a few stains. Now’s the time to use another of the bathroom floor cleaning tips. There are plenty out there from companies like Orchard Cleaning Services,

With a one-to-one mix of vinegar and warm water, spray the stains. After letting it sit for a few minutes, go ahead and wipe it off with the microfiber cloth.

But the Grout

If your bathroom floor cleaning schedule has been a little less than regular, the grout between the tiles may need some extra love.

Go gently on the grout. It’s much softer than the tiles. With a one-to-one mix of baking soda and water and a soft brush, gently go over the grout.

How to Clean Bathroom Floors: Not So Bad

Now that you know how to clean bathroom floors – just how easy it is to do it with everyday, non-toxic household items – you’ll keep yours shining from now on!
