Every year, around 10% of Americans relocate. If it’s your turn for this huge change, then you might be stressing out.

But with some careful planning and early action, you can make your upcoming move something to look forward to.

Here are 5 things you need to do before you move into your new house!

1. Get the Inner Workings Inspected

There’s nothing worse than moving into a house and finding out the plumbing doesn’t work. Or worse yet, that the electrical system’s all done wrong!

Hire professionals to do a walkthrough of your property before moving in. That way, if there’s anything done wrong, they can fix it up so you don’t have to go without running water or electricity!

2. Change the Locks and Keys

The previous owner of your new home might be honorable and have given you all the keys they have. But there’s also the possibility that they might not be so trustworthy. Plus, they might’ve given the keys to other people, and you have no clue who!

The safest thing to do for your family is to change all the locks and keys. That way, you’ll have peace of mind knowing everyone who has the keys and that your home’s secure with new hardware.

3. Deep Clean the House

For this, you might want to hire professionals, especially if you don’t have the time and/or energy to deep clean the house yourself.

Having a deep clean done on your new home can remove dust, debris, and germs. It can also make it feel more like you’re moving somewhere completely new and fresh, instead of somewhere that’s full of the old household’s ghosts.

Professional cleaners will be able to get into every nook and cranny, so you can trust that you’re relocating to a pristine house!

4. Have Renovations Done

If you’ve bought a fixer-upper, it might be a good idea to get renovations done before you move in. That way, you won’t have to deal with shifting your furniture around, covering them in tarps, and having a bunch of dust and noise to deal with!

While you’re having this done, it might be a good idea to get your house painted too. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone!

5. Hire Movers

Make things easier on yourself by hiring movers. Not only do they get your belongings from point A to point B, but they can also pack and unpack your boxes!

You won’t have to lift a finger, which is great if you’re not fully able-bodied. This can also free up your time so you can make some last memories with your loved ones before you relocate.

Move Into Your New House With Less Stress

Getting into a new house can come with a lot of stress and anxiety. But if you plan ahead and use your time wisely, it won’t be as challenging as you think.

And by taking what you’ve learned here and applying it to this move and all your future ones, you’ll be a moving pro in no time!
