If you think there’s a bed bug infestation in your home, one sign can be that you have what resembles mosquito bites on your body.

Yet, such bites are caused by a tiny brown parasite that leaves itchy red bite marks on your skin. Bed bug bites, unlike mosquito bites, appear in a zigzag-type pattern and cluster on your skin. Typically you can find them on exposed regions of the body like your arms, legs, and back.

It also might be that you don’t even notice the bites for a long time. Many people go without knowing for weeks.

So if you don’t want to sit and wait for bite marks to appear, here are five clear signs of a bed bug infestation in your home.

Blood Stains on Your Bedding

Bedbugs can sneak into your home through luggage, clothing, used beds, couches, and other objects that you bring in.

Their flattened bodies allow them to squeeze into spaces as small as the width of a bank card.

They can hide in mattresses, box springs, bed frames, and headboards. In these places, they have convenient access to people to bite in the middle of the night.

They eat by piercing your skin and sucking blood with their long beaks. The bugs then gorge themselves from around five to ten minutes before crawling away unnoticed.

But, after feeding on your blood, some of it can wipe off onto your bed sheets and pillows. So check in the morning for small blood spots, and if there are many, you probably have bed bugs.

Check for Bedbug Excrement

As well as leaving blood spots, bed bugs can also leave behind traces of excrement on your bedding and mattress.

Therefore, it’s a good idea to remove all your bedding and inspect it for signs of bugs or their excrement. Examine the seams in the wood framing by removing the dust cover from the bottom of the box springs. Also, remove the fabric from the wood frame where it is stapled.

A Foul Smelling Odor

The scent glands of the bed bugs in your home will emit a musty odor that is frequently characterized as coriander-like.

Yet, the odor is very unpleasant – nothing like fresh coriander. If you have a bed bug infestation, your home can begin to smell like moldy shoes or wet, moldy clothing.

Check for Eggs Shells and Shed Skins

Another clear sign that you have these pests in your home is if you start to notice tiny eggshells and shed skins.

You’ll be able to find traces of this organic matter in all the expected places bed bugs like to hide – like your bed or couch, for example.

Poor Sleep and Itchiness in the Morning

The most obvious indication that you have bed bugs is being bitten and experiencing itching as a consequence.

Bed bug bites do not spread diseases, but they are incredibly annoying. The areas of your body exposed while sleeping, such as your arms, head, and neck, are the most vulnerable to bites.

Furthermore, The heat rash caused by bed bug bites can be so severe that it disrupts your sleep. When combined with everything else listed in this article, uncomfortable nights are clear indications that you have bed bugs and need pest control services.
